The app was originally known as Musical.ly but was bought out by a Chinese firm ByteDance in mid-2018 according to TechCrunch. The app was shut down and the new base TikTok emerged. Fundamentally, it is the same as the original, allowing people to post the same content as before, although it now has more features. TikTok is considered to be safer than most social networks because it strictly adheres to online safety guidelines and safety of minors.
TikTok is an app that allows users to create comedic videos using music and or voice overs that can be shared all over the globe. On the app anybody can use anybody’s orginal sound through the power of lip syncing, but gives credit where it is due. TikTok has taken over the Gen Zer’s because of the instant fame it causes. This app has become so popular in such a short amount of time because it gives people a platform to express creativity.
In order to gain more popularity on the app, hashtags are used to have a larger outreach. The more popular the hashtag, the more likely it is to get noticed. Another way to get noticed is by getting on the For You Page, this is the page in the app in which random videos are selected through an algorithm, and placed on the page for everyone to see. Even though this social network is time consuming it creates enjoyment for teens, and an escape from reality.
